New York Comic-Con and more updates!

Hey folks--

Sorry I've been remiss in updating lately. Life gets in the way, you know? Anyway, you can expect a few things within the next few weeks, the first being my long-delayed review of The Vision Machine by writer Greg Pak. Next week will also see a few more Hulk reviews. I also want to review some old Hulk runs, so tell me whom do you want me to review--Len Wein, Paul Jenkins, or Bruce Jones?

And, oh yeah, there's this--from New York Comic-Con on October 9, 2010:

Ladies and gents, it's the one and only Greg Pak! Greg says he has some very exciting Hulkish things in store in coming months. We've got the book coming out twice a month through at least January, and hey, we're getting closer to the Hulk turning the big 5-0 in 2012! (And he doesn't look a day over...well, we don't want to make the Hulk angry now, do we?)

And yes, friends, I also met Gabriel Hardman, Fred Van Lente, Dan Slott, Scott Reed, Lee Weeks, and some other Hulk-related creators. I do have some sketches to share...another day!

Keep on Hulkin'!

  1. Gary,I was wondering if you saw my article about the nature of the "old power" in the Hulk stories on Daily Pop's web site. I would be interested to hear what you think.

  2. At this moment in time Gary, I would request that you interview Greg Pak. Please can you ask him why is he rushing the current storyline? Where is the developing of the family ties? Why is Greg favouring Skaar over Lyra? Where is Lyra? Why was she dropped? Ideally, the current storyline should have built up and developed for Summer 2011 or 2012.

  3. Marco, I'll probably be interviewing Greg soon--I usually check in once a year, so we'll see! As for Lyra, she and Jen are headlining SHE-HULKS, the new book on sale this week by Harrison Wilcox and Ryan Stegman, so that's probably where she's off to.

I can't agree about decompressing the stories even further to bridge to the Dark Son storyline. It does, however, feel like there's some event fatigue setting in. I'm anxious to see what's happening on the other side of "Chaos War." Events seem so "big" and threats are necessarily huge as we have a group of Hulks to deal with. We're in for a lull at some point.

I'd love to see a U-Foes fight soon, or seeing the Hulks fight the Galaxy Master or Klaatu, as long as we're out in space!

  5. Gary, I agree. I have had this chat with my posse at my local LCS. There are just too many big events/crossovers that Marvel do in a year. Also, that it is next to impossible to keep track of how each event fits in continuity (if Marvel even cares about such things anymore). I was aware of the Lyra & Jen mini-series. My point was she was in The Incredible Hulks one issue and the next she disappeared (with no explainations). I don't believe about Greg decompressing the story, my point is after the events of Fall Of The Hulks / World War Hulks Greg SHOULD have allowed a break in the action. Allowing the characters to develop an emotional attachment to each other. Bruce becoming a father to both Skaar AND Lyra. Making peace with Betty. Will Betty become a mother to Skaar for example. They need space to become a family in the vein of the Fantastic Four.

  6. The other points you made are valid. Bringing some of the classic (and under used) villains would be interesting. I think the Hulk family is a GREAT idea. It is just the execution that I am not too thrilled about. The points I have made can all be rectified with abit of work from Greg. The family should stay together for at least nine to twelve months (with the view of making it a permanent fixture as long as the fans want it).

  7. Lastly, can you reveal anything that will happen to the Hulk family titles in the New Year? (I will understand if you have been sworn to secrecy).

  8. Can you tell Greg Pak to add Harrison Wilcox to the Hulk Brain Trust? I really enjoyed his first issue of the She-Hulks. If this is the sample of his writing I am VERY impressed! Also, can you confirm if the She-Hulk series is a mini or ongoing? Have heard different things about it. Confirmation would be helpful.

I can never tell if two comments from "Anonymous" are really by the same person, so please, especially if I know you from other websites, leave a name or alias or something! Thanks!
